Waqaa! My name is Tammy Schneidler, and I have been teaching here at Akiuk since 2003. I've been here a long time because I love getting to live in Kasigluk with my husband, Peter, and my two kids, Claire and Jonathan, and I really enjoy working at Akiuk. Our students are hard-working kids who also strive to honor their culture and their family, succeed in Western education, and lead their peers in the process. They are the best part of my job!
In the summer, if I can, I love to kayak around Kasigluk and visit family in Washington state. The rest of the year, I love to pour over literature and writing with my students. This year I have the privilege of teaching some "extra" electives to high schoolers, including Digital Photography, Video Game Design (check out our VGD class page and the Game Gallery - if it's not up yet, it is coming soon!). Both Digital Photography and Video Game Design are online classes, thank goodness!). I also get to teach Yup'ik Mass Media, a course dedicated to helping create materials for the younger grades in our Dual Language Program. As always, there is a lot happening at Akiuk and a lot to be thankful for.
