The U.S. History class was taught a bit differently. Instead of learning about history from 1774 on, we started in 2001 and went backwards. Some things covered by this class included the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and the actions that followed, foreign and domestic policy during the 1990s, the Reagan Era, The 70s, the Vietnam War, and the Civil Rights Era.
This class required unique work from the group of nine students, and they really rose to the occasion. A project this class completed during the year was to listen to Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech and then work on writing their own, but with a twist, they would translate part of their speech into Yupik! This group took on this project with enthusiasm and the results were fantastic.
